Hello, I'm interested in hearing why any of you became a vegan or vegetarian, many of my friends have taken the lifestyle change for the health reasons; I am curious about our community.

Hi I am a vegetarian because first, I watched my grandmother die of colon cancer, in fact both of my grandmothers died of colon cancer. I lead a very sedentary lifestyle being a counselor and all, and meat tends to sit in my body too long. I like feeling light and free. This is just being totally transparent.

I wanted to share this weeks-food "haul". I was able to snag a case (12 bags, I think) of "Organics" organic cherries for $35.00 and 8 organic mangoes for $5.00, some cutie pie type mini tangelos @ .10 ea. and some vanilla beans 2 for $1.00 each from the actual food warehouse here in town. I also ordered and rec'd -"Vibrant-Health" Pure-Green protein powder. This is made with mostly yellow Pea protein, Rice, Spirulina, Alfalfa w 4/ free-formed amino acids. All this is designed to match the amino acid ratio of human muscle. This is non-GMO, no soy, no animal protein, no hemp. I tried it and I'm pretty happy with it. I got the vanilla flavor, the sugar is at 0.09 and 4 carbs. I mixed it Coconut milk and fruit. I usually scrape some vanilla bean in it. No baby kale this week, until the "Farmer's Market on Sat or Sun to add to my smoothies. I plan to try it for breakfast w/ just water and see how that goes.
I'm even going to do the "Essential Edibles" Detox formula. Supposed to remove toxins from each cell. Trying to be organic, gluten-free, this level of healthy eating this is new to me. Some of the info is contradictory or so it seems. If anyone has more info on what you eat to stay healthy then please continue to post if you have time! I'm doing it in stages. Also, some of the info is different from men to women, of course. Sugar makes my joints ache, I rarely even do Agave or even Honey though I LOVE IT! It's a spike in the blood sugar levels that I feel I personally need to avoid. I like Xylitol and it's good for the teeth they say. I think it's from birch trees. Anyone see that movie-FOOD, Inc? WOW!

Dear Nebthet5. Currently, I'm not in CLE. You may be able to cut a deal with someone at the "West-side Market" on a case of something! The warehouse I go to is "Kodiak Warehouse" in PHX. It's basically too hot here to eat much except cherries but I wanted to get the right protein nutrients. I remember years ago, you warned me off soy! So, thank you for that! Somehow, I know there is a food warehouse with organic selections in CLE. It'll basically be where all the good restaurants get their food. I was here 2 yrs. before I found this place. Eating well is expensive so it's made a big difference for me to be able to cut out the middleman on my favorites. Online, I found a couple online stores one is at www.znaturalfoods.com and the other is "Natures Flavors.com". If you guys can check them out and post what you think, I would appreciate it. By the way...if you'd like to share-what's your favorite smoothie recipe? Thanks!
